Discover the largest Academy release to date
Flashgroup develops Academy, a portable VR crisis simulator for emergency services. Academy 3.0, available from September 29, 2026, is the largest Academy release so far: it adds Incident Command Training for officers and commanders, free placement of objects during a running exercise, expanded vehicle extrication and hazardous material content, and a new water rescue environment.
What is new in Academy 3.0
- Incident Command TrainingNew objects and instructor controls for the command layer: build an incident, run it live, and change conditions while the exercise is in progress.
- Vehicle extricationNew crash vehicles with removable windows, doors, and roofs, plus crib blocks, hydraulic rescue tools, safety goggles, stretchers, toolboxes, and tool mats.
- Hazardous materialsNew IBC tanks, barrels, gas and fuel canisters, and EV chargers, plus spills that grow over time with adjustable size and color.
- Free PlacementObjects can be placed where they are needed and added while an exercise is already running.
- Water rescueA new lakeside environment, diver characters, and dedicated water rescue equipment.
Build, manage, and adapt incidents in real time
Academy 3.0 extends Academy’s Incident Command Training with objects and instructor controls built specifically for the command layer. Instructors compose a realistic incident, run it, and adjust conditions while officers and commanders are working the scene.
Because the situation changes during the exercise, officers reassess risks, revise their incident action plan, and respond to developments they did not plan for.
Take vehicle extrication training further
Academy 3.0 expands vehicle extrication with new crash vehicles and a wider range of rescue equipment. Vehicles can be customized by removing windows, doors, and roofs, so instructors recreate different accident and rescue situations. New equipment adds further detail to the scene: crib blocks, hydraulic rescue tools, safety goggles, stretchers, toolboxes, and tool mats.
Create the accident, define the conditions, and train the response from start to finish.
Create more demanding hazmat scenarios
Hazardous materials scenarios become more dynamic in Academy 3.0. New IBC tanks, barrels, gas and fuel canisters, EV chargers, and other objects give instructors more options for building complex incidents.
Spills now develop over time, and instructors adjust their size and color as the scenario progresses. That makes it possible to introduce a new hazard during an exercise and have trainees re-evaluate the situation and adjust their response.
More scenario freedom with Free Placement
Instructors are no longer limited to predefined setups. With Free Placement, objects go where they are needed, including while an exercise is already running.
That means conditions can be changed mid-exercise, an unexpected development can be introduced at the moment it is most useful, and the same environment supports a different incident every time it is used.
New water rescue scenarios
Academy 3.0 adds a lakeside environment with dedicated water scenarios, extending training beyond incidents on land. Diver characters and water rescue equipment, including buoys, life reels, dive ladders, hypothermia kits, and DP1 equipment, make these scenarios possible.
Academy is accredited by the national public safety institute (NIPV) to examine both incident command and diving, so water rescue training in Academy builds toward an externally accredited assessment standard rather than only an internal benchmark.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is Academy 3.0?Academy 3.0 is the Fall 2026 release of Flashgroup Academy, a portable VR crisis simulator for emergency services. It adds Incident Command Training for officers and commanders, free placement of objects during a running exercise, new vehicle extrication and hazardous materials content, and a lakeside environment for water rescue scenarios. Academy is updated on a three-month release cycle.
- What can officers and commanders train in Academy 3.0?Academy 3.0 adds Incident Command Training for officers and commanders, covering scene assessment and size-up, resource allocation and requesting, multi-agency coordination and communication, and adapting command decisions while the incident develops. The instructor escalates the incident live, and every decision can be replayed and discussed afterward in a structured After-Action Review.
- Is Flashgroup Academy accredited for water rescue training?Academy is accredited by the NIPV (Nederlands Instituut Publieke Veiligheid), the Dutch national institute for public safety, to examine incident command and diving. That accreditation covers the examination itself: Flashgroup is not a certification provider, and instructors evaluate performance through After-Action Review.
